My name is Andy Zanazanian, and I am an applied microeconomist specializing in public, labor, and urban economics. Currently, I serve as an Economist for the Joint Committee on Taxation, where I provide official, nonpartisan revenue estimates on tax legislation considered by Congress.
I received a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics, in 2020 and 2016, respectively, from the University of California, Irvine. Before joining the Joint Committee on Taxation, I taught economics and statistics at the University of California, Irvine.
My professional and research interests are broadly concerned with how federal, state, or local government policies impact consumer and firm behavior. For example, I have papers looking at how governments can enact laws to encourage or discourage certain types of investments or establishments within local communities, like commercial development or recreational marijuana dispensaries.
